Lovely and lady like....matching jacket and dress from the late 1950s-early 60s.

Bold floral printed rayon/linen with cream background and clusters of red stylized roses. It consists of a cropped, collarless jacket with 3/4 length sleeves and pearlized buttons. The dress is a fitted sheath...sleeveless with jewel neckline, belted waist and open dart pleats at the top of the skirt. The skirt is straight with a pleated kick vent at center back for ease of movement. It has two hidden pockets in the side seams to tuck away your hanky or lipstick. In back, it zips with a metal zipper. The dress is unlined as was typical of summer dresses from the era. Women wore slips so a lining would have been unnecessary. The jacket however is lined in light cotton. The label is missing so I do not know the maker.

The size is a smaller medium, around a modern 6. It has the following measurements.

Bust 36"
Waist 26"
Hips 36"
Length from waist to hem 28"

$115.00

Sweet little house dress from the 1950s in paisley cotton plissé. So cool and soft, plissé is a lightweight puckered fabric that was very popular in the 1950s. The pretty pattern is a paisley motif in red, pink, gray and black on a white ground. The rounded neckline, pockets and short sleeves are trimmed in red cotton. It has a fitted bodice and full skirt. The dress zips in back with a metal zipper. I have a little petticoat underneath to give the skirt some fullness for the photograph. This is not included. It would also look wonderful with a fuller petticoat.

If you do not have a petticoat and are looking for one there are plenty online if you just do a quick search. The older ones are harder to find but there are many sources for new. Bridal wear sites are a good place to look.

The original belt was gone but I had this black patent leather one from the same era which looks nice, it will be included. The tag reads Wayne Maid "perfect in every detail"

Very gently worn with no holes or blemishes. The colors are still bright. The size is Medium around a modern 8 with the following measurements
Bust up to 39"
Waist 29"
Hips 39"
Skirt length from waist to hem 29"

Cool polished cotton ensemble from the early 1950s. The fabric is a beautiful aqua cotton with polished satin finish. The set consists of a cropped bolero jacket open in front and full circle skirt. It is pictured with a petticoat beneath which is not included.

If you do not have a petticoat and are looking for one there are plenty online if you just do a quick search. The older ones are harder to find but there are many sources for new. Bridal wear sites are a good place to look.

The skirt is lightly detailed with three soutache embroidered flowers connected by flowing swirls. There are silver bead studs in the center of each flower. It has the original self fabric belt. I do not know the maker as the label has been removed.

This outfit would likely have been worn with a crisp white cotton blouse or snug little sweater. I can also see it with a white crossover halter top.

It zips on the side with a metal zipper and closes at the waist with plastic pearl ball buttons. The condition is pristine but as I was removing it from the dress form I noticed the waist had been let out. They did a beautiful job and it almost got past me! The tell tale sign was the waist band had an inset. The alteration does not detract but I thought I should mention it. . The size is generous around a modern 10-12 with the following measurements.

Skirt Waist 33"
Skirt length 28"
Bolero free size

Tea Time!
Inspired by the 30s era this early 1980s dress is done in pale pink printed with a mist of tiny black dots. The fabric is cool and light, a poly crepe with a wonderful drape. It is a tiny bit sheer so I will include a 1/2 slip to wear beneath. A perfect retro dress for afternoon tea!

Blouson top with horizontal pleats across the chest. Open rounded neck and short, fluttery overlapping petal sleeves. The skirt is straight... just a little swing at the hem. It has a fabric slide belt with black buckle. The label reads Joy Gordon.

Medium should fit a modern 8 - 10.

Very Lilliesque hand print cotton dress from the 1960s. The label is missing from this dress but I am fairly certain it is Lily Pulitzer. If not then another equally talented designer. The cotton has a lavender background with green white and magenta "Mod Tropics" flower print. Sleeveless fitted bodice with novel notched collar. Thick white cotton lace defines the center front and waistline. Nicely cut A-line skirt with just enough drape.
The dress is constructed in the Lily tradition with white cotton batiste underlining and lace hem binding.
The size is a generous medium around a modern 10.

Gorgeous shade of antique aqua, wool boucle knit set circa late 1940s early 1950s.
As with the previous boulcle sets the fabric is beautiful and no longer being produced in this quality. The texture is nubby but despite the fact that it is pure wool it is not scratchy against the skin. It has a nice weight and good drape. Never clingy like a lot of modern knits.
The cardigan top has a Peter Pan style collar and button front. The edges of the collar, front opening and fold up sleeve cuffs have a neat fringed detail. The buttons are a pretty marbleized plastic. The straight skirt is done in a deep ribbed knit and hugs the derriere. There is a slight flair at the hem.
The form hugging skirt keeps this set from appearing too demure. You can also wear the cardigan more open at the neck giving it a more chic look. The sleeves are 3/4 length. It has a close fitting midriff band and blouses gently.
This set was never worn and still has it's original hang tag (a picture is on the detail page). It was done by Lass O' Scotland Ltd., The hang tag reads The Flare Knit, the flare that flatters.

The size is small/medium and due to the stretch of the knit will fit a range of measurements. I will list the most practical range
.

Waist 25" to 30"
Hips 36" to 40"
Skirt length from waist to hem 31"

The pullover top zips at the back of the neck and again on the side with tiny-tooth metal zippers. The knit is a wide rib... horizontal over the bodice switching direction on the sleeves at at the waist. It has a high ribbed neck. The sleeve is a modified raglan, 3/4 length. It has a close fitting midriff band.
The skirt is knit in deep vertical ribs and hugs the derriere. Made to show off your shape in a ladylike manner.

Classic Gem!
This is a two piece sweater and skirt ensemble is from the 1950s. It is a dyed to match, wool skirt with Cashmere sweater. The color is a Watermelon Red (pink tone to the red). The sweater is cropped and full fashioned with beautiful couture details. The neckline, sleeve hems and front opening are finished with rows of trapunto cording and tiny black pick stitches. There are black satin covered buttons. The neckline is high and the sleeves are 3/4 length coming to a few inches below the elbow. The skirt is narrow and fitted with a kick pleat in back. There is nice couture detailing on the skirt as well. Each of the darts is defined with hand pickstitching and the top of the kick pleat is reinforced with a hand embroidered "arrow". These details are almost non-existent in todays clothing and if they are it is machine done, not the same at all! The skirt is half lined with matching taffeta. This lovely set was designed by Bonnie Briar. The sweater is 100% Scottish Cashmere and the skirt wool was dyed to match by Hokanum Fabrics. The size is medium with the following measurements.
Bust 38"
Waist 28"
Hip 39"
Skirt length 26"

Classic Red and White, Poly knit dress set from the 1970s. The set consists of a sleeveless fitted A-line dress with open short sleeved cardigan. It borrows its design lines from the classic 1920s and 30s dropped waist tennis sets. I'm sure the design was also inspired by the work of Coco Chanel, who did some lovely knit sets in the 1930s using a similar stripes on white theme. The knit in the bodice has a pretty zig zag pattern between the red stripes. This same knit is found on the sleeves of the cardigan.
The label inside is from Sears and it is machine washable. . The size is small/med with the following measurements before stretch

Here are two of the nicest shirtwaist dresses I have seen in a while. The bodices have cuffed short sleeves, buttons down the front and tailored collars. The skirts cinch in at the waist but are quite full at the hem due to the multitudes of triple folded knife pleats. The material is beautiful and unusual. It is a fine pebble crepe with a paisley/stripe pattern which has an Eastern European feel. One dress is done in greens, pink, blue and black and the other has red, teal, yellow and black. They are both small about a modern size 2 maybe 4. They measure 25" in the waist and 34" in the bust. The length of the skirt is 23" and the shoulder measurement is 14". These dresses have petite proportions which means they would probably look best on someone under 5'4" tall.

This dress whispers to me of...
Warm golden sunlight filtering through white voile curtains, a bakelite radio purring from the countertop and melt in your mouth apple pie cooling on a gingham table cloth.
1940s cotton house dress with earth tone abstract pattern. The bodice is cut blouse style with an extended shoulder line which creates short cap sleeves. It has a novelty collar trimmed with brown bakelite and rhinestone buttons. There is a neat little sailor tie around the neck. The skirt is A-line with two front patch pockets and there is a self fabric belt. It buttons down the front with the same brown bakelite and rhinestone buttons. The size is a generous medium around a modern 10-12. The bust measures 38" the waist 31" and the hips 40". The length of the skirt is just over 27" and the back bodice measures 16" from neck to waist. It would work very well on a tall frame. The dress is in excellent condition only the belt shows wear. The front of the belt is fine but the backing material is very worn this is not seen when on.
